Boys Basketball

The Tennessee HEAT Boys basketball program fields competitive basketball programs beginning in the 5th grade continuing through the athlete’s high school career. The Heat basketball program focuses on developing athletes to play at the highest level of the game, representing Jesus Christ on and off the court.
Located in Wilson County, we are committed to offering competitive athletics for homeschooled athletes in Middle Tennessee. Our hope and desire is that our Heat athletes can develop friendships, camaraderie, team/school spirit, and life lessons through the platform of athletics.
Ages
Our boys' program consists of 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U teams. A player’s age group is determined by his age on August 1 of the current school year. Players may be eligible to compete in a higher age group based on ability.
When
Tryouts and team selections occur in the early summer, followed by summer training. Regular season begins in late October and runs through mid-March, concluding at the National Christian Homeschool Basketball Championships in Springfield, MO.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to participate?
Each team sets their own player participation fees based on various factors. Fees usually range between $750-1,000/season. Fundraising opportunities are available for families upon request. Fees can be paid in full upon rostering, or they can be split up in monthly payment plans.
Are there extra fees in addition to player participation fees?
Families should anticipate travel costs in addition to player fees as well as gate fees to games and tournaments as required by various facilities.
My child is a beginner. Is Tennessee HEAT right for him?
Tennessee HEAT is a competitive basketball program. We compete against various schools and clubs in the area and participate in regional and national tournaments. If your child has never played or does not have some experience, our recommendation is to play for a recreational league for a year or two to get some experience before trying out for the Heat.
How often does each team practice?
Our younger teams practice about 2 days a week and play 1-2 games per week during the season. Our older teams will have games or practices about 4-5 days per week. Games could fall on any day of the week except for Wednesday and Sunday (with the exception of an occasional tournament game).
Do you have pre-season training opportunities and practices?
Yes, our teams offer scrimmages, skills trainings, and strength and conditioning sessions during pre-season for team members who are available. These usually begin in late May or early June and go throughout September.
How many kids are on each team, and does each one receive equal playing time?
Usually there are about 10-12 kids on each team. However, some teams roster 16-18 kids and have a Varsity and a Junior Varsity team with their own game schedules. Because we are a competitive program, kids are not guaranteed equal playing time during games.
What size basketball do I need for my child?
Our 12U teams will use a Size 6 or Size 7 basketball, depending on what team they are playing. Our older teams will use a Size 7.
